Ambassador Yamada attended the commemoration ceremony dedicated to the Great East Japan Earthquake (Spitak City)

On the 11th of March, 8 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, a commemoration ceremony for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake was held in Spitak City of Lori Marz, located in northern Armenia, which was the epicenter of the Great Armenian Earthquake in 1988. In 2012, a Monument (Khachkar) dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake was built in this city at the initiative of the members of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the RA. Since then, the residents of Spitak hold a victims commemoration ceremony every year. On this day, the Minister of Emergency Situations Mr. Feliks Tsolakyan, the Governor of Lori Marz Mr. Andrey Ghukasyan, the Mayor of Spitak City Mr. Gagik Sahakyan, the Head of the Rescue Service of Spitak City Mr. Serob Gabrielyan, and the residents of Spitak City gathered and held a flower-laying ceremony for the repose of the souls of the victims. Both sides expressed their determination to strengthen and develop the disaster management cooperation between Japan and Armenia.
